Why Did I Get Married Too?

I really liked the first one. No matter what your opinion of Mr. Perry, you can't deny that he keeps Black folk working in Hollywood! The movie is in theatres April 2. By the way, see data on one of its star in downstairs post!

My Black Is...Bold

Had a great time--though a long day--@ the Georgia Freight Depot. Got a mini-facial, bomb manicure and nice facetime during the BET taping of the My Black Is Beautiful the television show featuring Tasha Smith and the ATL leg of the tour. MC Lyte was on the 1s and 2s and there were some other great surprises. Look for the webisode next week on shakirahightower2.blogspot.com

Check Spring Beauty Style From Me @ Elle.com

Hey all,

Go to Videos (@ top banner), Select Video Star w/in page or How-To Options (page changes daily) and see my smokey eye video. Though Ms. Garth-Taylor favors a pastel for the Spring--and we love her vision--I was so excited to share my tutorial on an original take on the smokey eye. http://videostar.elle.com/videos67304371001/summer-haze

Boris and Nicole, Radcliffe and Victoria, Malinda and D-Nice

While out and about, I met Radcliffe Bailey who is very busy w/ his work on his High Museum of Atlanta exhibit due in about a year, the artist shared with me after Ms. Thompson's lecture (see previous post). His wife of course just recently hosted the National Black Art Festival's Fine Art + Fashion event featuring Sak's Fifth Avenue goodies...Boris and Nicole are just 2 cute. Saw them @ Uptown--your Brooklyn brother's club in Atlanta--at a Soul Food series cast reunion. Malinda was simply adorable. She and D-Nice are one of my favorite couples. It was nice 2 C the ever-cute Chili of TLC as she was in the house as well (you know we drink as much Dasani as we can, C). As I was leaving, I got chills as I spoke to Darrin Dewitt Henson. Can u say physically fit?

Bling Bling from the Visual Artists Prespective

Krista Thompson Driskell Prize Winner and Associate Professor of Art History at Northwestern University gave a dynamic and informative lecture on the emergence of bling and its manifestation via hip hop. During the Q&A, I offered that during Reaganomics--when hip hop shifted from more casual and conscious foci to materialism in its lyricism--the shift was due to the fact that youth or the primary listening audience required such a shift because while the audio component of the culture provided freedom-saving agents, the more obvious visuals appeared missing though they were necessary. So in other words, w/ bling as the listener goes about his or her day w/ a virtual road map--via hip hop--is provided for that ultaconservative Republican reign bcuz while there were some clues that were accessible w/ the music the bling was the additional, necessary component that prevents that partial and frustrated feeling. Thanks again Krista, Kudos! P.S. See previous entries on Kehinde Wiley in this blog - Tlhompson examines him quite a bit in this lecture

You should--the chocolate cupcakes that you've been eating so much of are just substitutes for the sweet high for the sweet life that you, me, and everyone else craves, right? Well, before she married Shaq, Shaunie O'Neal worked as a journalist and she's got her own reality show on Vh1 set to air this week. We'll talk...
